Getting Started

Getting Started with ASI:Work: Your First Real Task

You have never used an AI that works on your computer before. Good. You don't need to. This guide gets you from opening the app to a finished task, and shows you where to go next.

Most AI is a conversation. You type, it answers, you copy the answer somewhere useful. ASI:Work is different: it rolls up its sleeves and does the job.

It reads the files in a folder you choose, writes new ones, edits existing ones, and gets the work done on your computer. And by default, ASI:Work checks with you before risky actions.

Read the announcement for the full product story. This guide is for something simpler: getting your first real task done today.

Your first task in three moves

ASI:Work lives in the ASI:One desktop app, in the Work tab. You don't configure anything. You pick, you describe, you approve.

1

Start a new task

Open the Work tab and hit New task. That's the whole first step.
2

Point it at a folder

Pick a folder on your computer that already has the work in it. Your notes, your docs, your project files. ASI:Work works on the files inside this folder - and by default, it checks with you before risky actions beyond it, like running a command on your computer.
3

Describe the job

Type what you want like you'd hand it to a capable teammate. The more you name the files and places you mean, the better the first draft comes back. Then approve the sensitive steps as they come.

Name what you mean

Vague asks work, but specific asks work better. Instead of "clean up my files," try "Sort the files in this folder into one subfolder per project and write a short README for each." You get a much clearer first draft to refine.

Good first tasks

Start with something small and real. A few asks that land well on the first try:

  • "Look through the files in this folder and give me a one-page summary of where each project stands."
  • "Take the notes in this folder and draft a status update I can paste into our channel."
  • "Tidy up this spreadsheet and tell me what the numbers say this week."
  • "Turn these meeting notes into action items, one owner each."

When in doubt, chat

This is the one habit that makes everything else easy. The chat box in Work isn't just for task descriptions. It's the front door to everything: preferences, questions, do-overs, new ideas.

Don't like how something came out? Say so. Want your AI to always do things a certain way? Just tell it - in plain language. There's nothing to hunt through and nothing to install.

You: From now on, keep our slide decks under ten slides and always end with next steps.
Your AI: Got it - decks stay under ten slides and always end with next steps for this task. I'll follow that from here on.

That's it. That's the whole trick. If you can describe it, you can ask for it.

Where to go next

Once your first task is done, the rest of ASI:Work is five short reads. Each one covers what a part of Work is for and what's possible with it:

Rules - teach your AI how your team works, by just saying it. Type a preference once, like "always follow our company communication guidelines when drafting marketing presentations," and it applies for the rest of that task.

Skills - ready-made routines for repeat work. A skill teaches your AI a whole workflow, like filing a ticket the way your IT team wants, every single time.

Connectors - bring your tools into the room. Let your AI see and act in the tools your team already uses - the ones you choose to connect, plus built-in Figma and Auth0, which turn on from the Connectors page.

Apps - ask for a tool, get a tool. Instead of a one-off answer, your AI can build a small app your team keeps using.

Scheduled - let your AI run the routine. Weekly reports and recurring cleanups can just happen, on the schedule you set.
