ASI:Work Apps: Ask for a Tool, Get a Tool

A chat reply answers something once. An app answers it forever. Ask your AI for a small tool - a tracker, a dashboard, a calculator - and keep using it long after the chat ends.

Some asks don't want an answer - they want a thing. "Track our launch checklist." "Calculate everyone's tips at the end of a shift." "Show our content ideas as cards." You could answer that in chat every Monday, or you could have the tool that answers it every time, forever.

That's what apps are in ASI:Work. Describe what you want to see and do, and your AI builds a small tool for it. It lands under Apps in the sidebar, and it opens any time - whether or not you're mid-task.

What asking looks like

You: Make me a little app that tracks our launch checklist - checkable boxes, a progress bar, dark mode.
Your AI: Done - your Launch Checklist app is saved under Apps. Checkable boxes with a live progress bar on top, and it follows your system's dark mode. Open it from the Apps tab any time, even outside this task.
You: Nice. Add a spot to jot who owns each item.
Your AI: Updated - each item now has an owner field next to the checkbox. Your checked items and owners carried over, and the earlier version is still saved in case you want to go back.

Notice what happened there. You didn't restart from scratch or re-explain anything - you asked for a change in chat, and the app updated. Your earlier versions stay saved, so a tweak that didn't land is never a disaster.

Good things to ask for

  • Trackers - sprint boards, launch checklists, habit logs, sign-up sheets.
  • Dashboards - your team's numbers in one view, shaped the way you actually read them.
  • Calculators - tip-outs, split bills, commission math, anything you keep redoing in a spreadsheet.
  • Card views - ideas, candidates, recipes, anything that lives better on a wall of cards than in a list.

Where apps live, and what they know

Apps run right on your machine, and anything you save in them - checked boxes, entered numbers, your notes - stays on your machine too. Apps can't read your files, and they can't reach the internet either unless you allow a site - the one built-in exception is Google Fonts, which apps can load for their type. No surprises in, no surprises out.

When in doubt, chat

Don't plan the app - describe it. What you want to see, what you want to click, what it should remember. Your AI turns that into a tool, and you refine it with follow-up asks instead of starting over.

Start with the thing you keep redoing

Everyone has one: the spreadsheet you rebuild monthly, the list you retype weekly, the math you re-derive on a napkin. That's your first app. Describe it once, and it stops being a chore you do and becomes a tool you open.
