ASI:Work Rules: Teach It How Your Team Works

Out of the box, your AI is polite and generic. Rules make it yours - your tone, your formats, your non-negotiables. And you set them by typing them in the Work chat.

The first draft your AI hands you is fine. The tenth one should sound like your team wrote it. The gap between those two is rules - the standards you set once so the rest of the work in front of you gets them for free.

You already know your rules. "Our decks never go past ten slides." "Always end with next steps." "Don't touch the invoices folder." The only question is how to teach them to your AI. The answer: type them, right in the chat.

The one move that does it

Say it like you'd say it to a teammate

"Create a rule to ensure we always follow our company communication guidelines when drafting marketing presentations."

That's the whole move: describe the standard in plain language, your AI confirms it understood, and it applies from that moment on - for the task you're working in right now.

You: From now on, keep our slide decks under ten slides and always end with next steps.
Your AI: Got it - new rule: decks stay under ten slides and always close with a next steps slide. I'll follow that for the rest of this task.

What rules are for

Rules shine anywhere your team has a "we always" or a "we never":

  • Tone and style - "write in our brand voice," "keep summaries under half a page."
  • Formatting conventions - "dates as 27 Oct 2026," "status updates always go in the same order."
  • Guardrails - "never edit the invoices folder," "always ask before sending anything outside the team."

If you'd have to remind a new hire of it, it's probably a rule.

Your AI keeps track so you don't have to

Rules live quietly in the background of the task you're working in. Your AI keeps them in mind as it drafts, edits, and revises - and when it adds a rule for this task, you may see it mentioned on an approval card, but you never have to open or edit anything yourself. Want to know where things stand? Just ask:

You: What rules do I have right now?
Your AI: You have three: follow company communication guidelines in marketing decks, keep decks under ten slides ending with next steps, and never edit the invoices folder. Want to change any of them?

Same for changes. "Actually, twelve slides is fine" updates the rule on the spot - for the rest of this task. Plain language in, standards out.

When in doubt, chat

Here's the habit worth building: when a draft comes back not quite right, don't fix it by hand and move on. Say what you'd change - "tighter," "less formal," "always include the deadline." That correction is a rule trying to happen. Turn it into one and your AI applies your fix right away, for the rest of the task.
